New and improved make-up lol

August 26th, 2008

I’ve been noticing more and more manufacturers copying the Bare minerals idea and putting this “new and improved” natural mineral make-up on the market.

Quoted from Bareminerals.com :

“Pure Natural Mineral Makeup from the Earth

Bare Escentuals uses only the finest ingredients in our products. Made with crushed minerals from the earth, 100% pure bareMinerals:

* is free of preservatives, talc, oil, fragrance and other potential skin irritants
* is free of fillers and binders
* is weightless
* provides adjustable coverage—from light to full
* will improve the condition of the skin over time”

Well isn’t that funny.

They say it’s new and improved.
But if you really think about it all they did was just go back to basics :P

It amuses me how sometimes no matter how much they want to innovate and modernize, they basically end up doing things the simple and old fashioned way again :)

Guitarhero on C64

August 22nd, 2008

lol yes, I’m serious.
I came across this when I… um… I don’t remember exactly what I was doing, I haven’t completely woken up yet. Anyway, enjoy :)

I have to say it’s pretty awesome that someone went and did that. Normally I wouldn’t be (and haven’t been) all that interested in any Guitarhero games, but this really geeks me out :D

Go here if you’re interested in the Shredz64 guitar game and/or the PSX64 converter to hook up Playstation controllers (including guitars) to your C64, Amiga or Atari.

Alien Art Invasion!!

August 20th, 2008

Or in short, AAI!!

I was attempting to draw something a person on Deviant Art had requested yesterday. A drawing of the ancient Egyptian Goddess Bast in my style. And I spent quite a bit of time on it. Starting with the sketch, revising, then inking the line art and coloring. All in all, including a few snack breaks I’d say it took me several hours. And the result was kinda meh.
So far I’ve had decent responses on it but I can’t say I’m really all that happy with it myself. Which is a shame since I spent that much time on it. But ah well, it happens sometimes.

Then later that evening I felt this weird urge to grab another sheet of paper, and I started doodling. The sketch probably took about 10 mins and the combination of inking the lines and coloring it with pencil (for some reason I didn’t even go for my prismacolor pencils but a box of cheap crayola kiddie pencils lol) probably only took me another 15 or so.

So in less than half an hour I ended up with some kind of alien… 0_o
And even though several things about it, like the hair tentacle things, are really corny features that have been done to death… I kinda like him, and am somewhat attached to him already. And I’m not entirely sure why. The image itself is nothing special, so I guess I might just like him because it wasn’t a conscious effort but he just sorta… “happened”.

That, and probably the fact that I named him.
You know it’s over when you name them :D

4

August 16th, 2008

Yesterday we celebrated out 4th wedding anniversary, and we had a great time. The initial idea was to make it a day trip and go to the beach town where we got married, but when we looked at Google maps and found out how long the trip is from our new place to there we both looked at each other and went “screw that” lol. Would’ve been a bit of a shame to spend half the day in the car for a few hours of wandering around there. So we’ll do it properly one of these days and stay at a hotel so we can actually spend a few days there like we did then. So instead we spent the day doing various other fun things. Though we kinda started celebrating a day early and there’s enough goodies left to make the rest of the weekend a celebration too, so we will :D

It’s funny though, I so can’t imagine that it’s been 4 years already. Time really does fly. It’s also pretty amazing where we are right now. I don’t think either of us could’ve imagined we’d have all these things happen in our lives in those 4 years, especially the move to our new place which we both love to bits. :D

It was almost a full moon last night too (tonight’s the actual full moon I believe) and the sky was very clear so I suddenly got the idea to see how my new camera and lens would do taking a picture of that. My previous camera would manage a tiny blurry yellow circle at best, so I wasn’t expecting too much, especially since I figured that at such an insane long range you’d either need a very steady hand or a tripod to not have it turn into a blurry mess, and I certainly wasn’t expecting my long range lens to do that much better than my old camera really, since it’s still a ways away. But I gave it a shot anyway and I was actually very pleasantly surprised! Sure it’s not a crisp high quality NASA shot, or even a telescope quality shot, but the fact that it isn’t just a small yellow circle and there are actually features visible makes me very happy :)

I <3 my long range zoom lens

August 10th, 2008

Spotted a cool butterfly yesterday. But it was pretty high up in our neighbors’ tree munching on nectar from it’s flowers. But I grabbed my camera anyway to try and get a shot. And to my amazement I actually managed to get some and they didn’t come out as pink and yellow blobs, so I’m very happy :D I personally think this was the best one.

Horribly cropped and re-sized to fit in the blog of course. So click it if you would like to see the bigger (also cropped) 50% version. I also still have the 100% un-cropped and un-color-corrected one so just drop me a comment if you want to see that. I’m not going to upload it unless someone’s interested. It’s pretty huge, but it’s cool how you can see all the detail like even the pollen that’s stuck to it’s body in the original version though :)

So yeah, I love that lens. And it looks like I’m starting to get a steadier hand. Though every once in a while I need to remind myself to start breathing again XD And no I’m not blond :P It’s just a lot steadier when you hold your breath for a sec, and sometimes there are just several shots you want to take in a row :D And I know I know, I should probably get a tripod some day. But for now I just like not having to set things up and be able to walk around as I take shots :)

Feathers are overrated.

August 5th, 2008

I was in the back yard this morning trying to find something interesting to catch with my camera. Unfortunately it was pretty quiet and there wasn’t much out there besides the occasional butterfly who wouldn’t sit still and of course the scads and scads of grasshoppers that live there.

Then I saw another shadow pass over just like last time, so instead of looking around me I started keeping my eyes on the sky. And after a few minutes I saw a vulture appear. and after another minute I saw another. I guess they were circling something dead because I kept seeing more and more pop up.

They were really high up though, even higher than that hawk I caught the other day so it was pretty hard to get a shot of them, especially since they are pretty dark too, but I took several anyway. A bunch of them are crap of course but that’s why I got a Digital SLR instead of a normal one. Hurray for digital media and the delete option :D

There was one vulture in particular that caught my interest though, it was a very ragged looking one which was missing a bunch of it’s feathers and some of the ones it still had were a bit damaged. It made it look pretty bad ass, and it didn’t look like it had any trouble at all maneuvering through the air and it was out flying most of the others. It also came down a bit lower than the rest so I did my best to get a shot of it. Re-sized it to 50%

So anyway, I guess you don’t need a perfect set of wings to fly. :)

I need a WoW intervention…

August 1st, 2008

It took a while for me to realize it but I really think I need help. It’s gone much too far. And I hadn’t even realized it until now. :(

You hear all the stories about interventions for other people, but you never think it’s something that will ever happen to you, and especially not that it’s something you’d ever admit you need yourself.

But it’s come to the point where I only rarely see my friends. They have fun without me while I’m stuck here, away from everything that’s really important. And I feel that I’ve started living in a different world than all of you, and it’s horrible.

So please… I ask all of you who care about me…

Find a way for me to regain my interest in the game. It’s so lonely out here in RL. I want to enjoy wow again. Give me a reason to level!! :’(
