Clean Freaks
July 27th, 2007I’ve been noticing a new trend lately.
Everything seems to be “anti-bacterial” now.
Dish washing liquid, other cleaning supplies and even normal soap. All claiming to kill 99% of bacteria. What’s with this insanely clean-freakish behavior? I can see how you’d want to be cautious and thoroughly clean things like cutting boards and such, to prevent getting dangerous things like salmonella poisoning. But for absolutely everything else as well?
To be honest I think there’s such a thing as being “too” clean. There are bacteria living in your intestines without which you wouldn’t even be able to survive. Will these formulas affect those bacteria in the long run as well if you keep ingesting tiny bits of it from your “clean” spoons and forks? And don’t you need your body to deal with a certain amount of dirt and bacteria to keep it alert and maintain a healthy immune system in case you have to deal with more serious infections and diseases in the future?
I really do think it weakens your health if you shield your body from every single bacteria found in a normal house.
Unless you want to live like those poor kids of Michael Jackson’s, in a bubble with mouth rags, unable to ever go anywhere “contaminated” (IE normal).
Another scary thing I saw on TV the other day was a commercial for a lawn poison for people who don’t want any bugs in their lawn. What the hell?! It’s outside… it’s grass… it’s nature… bugs… are nature… THERE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUCKING BUGS IN YOUR LAWN YOU FUCKING MORONS!!! FILL YOUR BACK YARD WITH FUCKING CONCRETE IF YOU CAN’T HANDLE THE WAY THE REST OF THE PLANET WORKS YOU FREAKS!!!!
I’m sorry for the outburst, but that’s just beyond idiocy.
Did I miss something? Are these people aliens who are allergic to earth bacteria or something?…. (OMFG TRIPODS halp!!!1)
I don’t get it. I’ve eaten plenty of food off the ground when I was a kid. If there’s a bit of sand on it you either wipe it off or just run it under the faucet for a few seconds if that makes you feel better… Or if you don’t mind a bit of crunch ya just stick it right back in your gullet, sand ‘n all

A bit of dirt doesn’t hurt, it helps toughen up your immune system.
And I’m pretty sure it’s a hell of a lot healthier than the crap they put into those anti-bacterial formulas.
