Identified

March 31st, 2007

Well, today went just fine. Went to the biometrics appointment and had my fingerprints and photo taken.
It all happened pretty quickly without much waiting so the worst part of the day wasn’t that, but me being stupid and deciding to wear new boots all day. Feels like my feet are bruised or something, even now after I’ve had the boots off for a while :( So I’ll be walkin’ around the house in my soft and fuzzy psychadelic slippers for a while lol.

Finally and uh oh! :)

March 26th, 2007

Not too long ago we finally got a confirmation letter from US Immigration.
They told us that they’d recieved the greencard application and that they’d be in touch.
And a few days ago we got a letter with the time, date and place for our first appointment.

It’s this saturday and it’s a biometrics appointment, which is fingerprinting and photos and such I’m guessing.
So yeah it’s finally moving! Which means that hopefully I’ll be able to travel again this year. It’ll be nice to visit the family again back in NL.

As for the “uh oh”, I know I have no reason to be, but I’m a tad nervous about saturday (and the rest of the process to come). Anything involving formal interviews, especially with government people in suits, tends to make me a bit uneasy lol, so wish me luck! :D

Fuckin’ Linux!

March 19th, 2007

lol!

We’ve had quite an adventure with the various linux builds.
For some reason the majority of them simply either refused to boot at all or when they did they’d hard lock at random times during the install. This was the case for both of us.
After a while we actually started to wonder wether we just had an entire batch of bad CDs or something.

But! Eventhough I wasn’t initially planning on trying Ubuntu I gave it a shot anyway. Just to humor Mord and to see if the CD that would keep hard locking his system right after the splash screen would work on mine.

And whaddaya know, for some reason it did work just fine on mine.
Right now I’m posting this blog from it while listening to my mp3’s and being idle on IRC so, so far so good.

I tried running WoW from my external USB drive through Wine but so far it’s been really slow and choppy (both Music and Graphics). So next up is figuring out wtf to do about video- and sound card drivers.
I already tried the ones I thought I needed but no luck so far. Course I’m a complete Linux nub (who also refuses to read any type of documentation whatsoever).
Last time I worked with it it was Mandrake. (Which apparantly turned into “mandriva” now). As far as I can tell Ubuntu is prettymuch the new linuxnub distro. If I got this far without trying then it shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

I’m losing it…

March 15th, 2007

I saw a ghost last night…
The ghost of a laundry bag.

That’s right, I can already hear you guys go “WTF?”

Well that was my reaction too lol.
It was the middle of the night and I had to go to the bathroom.
So I sat up in bed and turned to step out, but a full laundry bag was there in my path, right next to the bed.
I found it odd because I couldn’t remember leaving it there (I never leave anything between me and the bathroom because I usually tend to semi sleepwalk there and I don’t wanna trip over anything heheh). So I leaned off the bed to grab it so I could toss it aside to clear my path, but to my surprise I reached right through it nearly falling face first off the bed lol!
After regaining my balance and a few seconds of “WTF…” I looked back again and saw no laundry bag at all.
Then I stumbled to the bathroom and back and went back to sleep.

I know I’m never completely awake for any of my late night bathroom trips but I think this is the first time I’ve actually kept dreaming for a few seconds after opening my eyes lol.

very odd…
