Poor thing…

October 26th, 2006

This morning I let the dog out in our backyard for a bathroom trip.
We were walking around when I spotted something.

Someone had thrown something over the fence and it was lying there in the dirt and leaves.
It didn’t look very healthy, if alive at all. It definately didn’t look like it’d seen much love in it’s life.
It was such a sad sight that I went back inside to tell Mord about it. I asked him if he could maybe reach it and get it for me. There might be a chance of it still being alive and in good enough condition to nurse back to health.
But when he got it it was obvious that it’d been there hidden in the mud and under the leaves for too long.
So I took it, payed my last respects and put the poor thing in our trashcan.

It was an old Atari 2600 Woody :’(

toxoplasma gondii

Scary stuff is what it is.
It’s a single cel organism that enters bodies and takes control of various brainfunctions.
Mindcontrol! *Cue bad scifi music*

I saw something about an organism like that on animal planet a while back. I’m not sure if it was the same one but the one I saw would do things like mindcontrol ants into walking up a plant, run down to the very end of a leaf, clamp onto it with it’s jaws and then hang from it motionless so it’d be eaten by unsuspecting rodents nibbling on the plant. The organism would then breed, the eggs end up in the poo and ants would be all over it and there you have it’s lifecycle.

Though after having read some more about it it turns out that’s not quite correct. Aparantly the only creature this organism can succesfully breed in is cats. So I guess they left out the cat eats rodent part of the show for who knows what reason.

They actually did studies and noticed that rats that had been infected showed a lot less fear of cats. The organism makes sure that the right brain chemicals get released for the rat to become mellow enough to hopefully be eaten by a cat. Apparantly even scientists are quite horrified knowing that a single cel organism seems to know more about the function of the brain than we do lol.

Unfortunately the thing can be transmitted to humans too. So all you cat people out there, make sure to wash your hands very well after cleaning the litterbox unless you want to be *cue bad scifi music again* MINDCONTROLLED……

IT’S ALIIIIIIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

October 17th, 2006

Been having a bit too much fun using animal photos, chopping them into bits and reassembling them into various mythical creatures. I’m not very good at it but it’s so much fun that I keep doing it anyway :)

Here’s what I’ve come up with so far:

It started with a baby dragon but that one’s still a WIP until I find some better wings.

A black winged Unicorn (Horse, Vulture)

A Gryphon (Lion, Golden Eagle)

And my most recent, a murloc which is a WoW creature :) (Various fish parts and iguana feet)

If you’re ever bored you should really give this a go. It’s loadsa fun :D

IRC quotes page.

October 15th, 2006

Added an IRC quotes page to the site. It’s not much but it’s got my favourite IRC quotes from Blitzed.org on it.
I have it linked from the main page but here’s the direct link for yaz :) If I find any more while scanning through the logs I’ll put them in there aswell.

Nothing new apart from that really. Haven’t been playing WoW all that much. Levelled my rogue up to 60 too recently for me to be interested in redoing the same old quests with another alt again.
Definately looking forward to the expansion though, been hearing some very nice reviews about it from the test realms so yay, hope the release isn’t going to be “too” much later than what they estimated.

So in the mean time I’ve been doing other things, like enjoying the month of horror movies :)
There’s been some really good ones and also really bad ones on TV so that’s always fun.
Also been playing around with chickenwire / paper mache and paint and stuff. It’s not turning out great, but it’s fun attempting to be creative again :)

Relaxing way to deal with gold beggers.

October 10th, 2006

I used to get pissed off at gold beggers in WoW.
“WTF? how DARE he ask me for a G, he’s only a lvl 3 he doesn’t need a gold at that lvl!
The time he’s spent bothering people he could’ve actually played the friggin game and made the money himself!!” etc. etc.

Later I figured it wasn’t worth getting worked up about because they wouldn’t give a crap anyway so I just ignored “can i hav 5g plz” whispers entirely.
But still, it annoyed me. Especially since it happens daily.

But now!! I’ve found an awesome new “can i hve 7g plzzz!” hobby! :)

I still don’t reply to them, but now I’m collecting them.
That’s right, I’m screenshotting every single one of them, cutting out the whisper and I’m knitting them all into a huge gold begger hall of fame desktop background

And oddly enough, it’s actually quite fun.
I already got 3 since I started. Can’t wait to get more! :D

Sick of being sick…

October 3rd, 2006

It’s been over a week now and I’m still feeling like crap. We both are.
I know a nasty flu can last that long but knowing that still doesn’t make me feel any better.
I’ve prettymuch been living off tea and soup for the past week or so, with the occasional solid meal (not all of them agreed with me).

So meh.

And now WoW is down today for yet another extended maintenance.
Guess I should probably do some tidying up to distract myself. But bah, I still really dun feel like doing much at all.

Meh.. *grumble*
