[EDIT]
nevermind, Blizz fixed it, he’s not tameable anymore and those of us who already had him can’t use any of his skills/talents or feed him anymore. Such a shame
Gonna keep him in a stable slot for a while anyway though.
[/EDIT]
I recently tamed Garwal in his worgen form on my horde hunter. It’s not really a big deal, but I thought it was at first.
I got really excited when I first heard about it, but later after doing a lot of reading and researching on-line it seemed like it might be near impossible to tame this pet. So with me and my lack of patience I was pretty close to just going “fuckit” before even really trying.
Most of the people taming him were 80’s, I was 70, so I had to level one level before I could even tame him. After I did that and had followed the quest line up to the point where I could see him (If you already did the quest you’re SOL) I went to the area where he spawns and found a lvl 80 pet-less Orc hunter with the eagle eye buff (the quest buff that allows you to see Garwal) standing there.
He gave it several tries and then got him, so it didn’t seem too bad, that is until Mord started talking to the guy and he told us he’d been there for hours and hours trying and failing. That’s when we did the research I mentioned before and found out that a lot of people thought it was a pain in the ass because it’s not a matter of taming him after he changes into worgen form, the tame process has to finish at the exact moment he changes! :S
So anyway, after a lot of cursing and yelling I gave up that day but the next morning when I was calm and collected I decided to give it another go and use some of the gathered net wisdom. You can find most of this on-line, but the reason I’m posting this anyway is because a lot of the others are tards who are trying to make you do it the hard way. Which is fine if the hunter you use is a well geared one or a lvl 80, but mine was a poorly geared lvl 71 alt. So if you agree that the method of meleeing this guy is going to get you killed before you can even get him down far enough and the fact that he constantly stuns you, making it near impossible to kite and get far enough away to get your Wyvern sting off at the right time is a huge pain in the ass, then read on and find out the easy way to do it
Wyvern Sting definitely seems to be the key to taming this guy just like most people say.
I was full on BM, so I had to respec survival for this, which I did.
Meleeing him was obviously not going to happen because he had me dazed about 98% of the time and was kicking my ass hard.
So I thought: “hmm, I wonder if you can abandon a pet mid combat”. And it turns out you can. So basically what I did was tame one of the worgs walking around there, cleared the area, waited for Garwal to show up, sent the pet in to attack and made him “stay” by Garwal instead of follow (that way once he’s at the right percentage and I tell my pet to stop attacking they both stay put and Garwal just keeps bashing on the pet instead of them both running back to me getting too close for Wyvern sting again).
So ya, I brought him down to the right percentage (DO NOT USE DOTS, you want to control this fight and the numbers otherwise it’s impossible to get it right). When he was down at the right percentage I stopped attacking and made my pet stop attacking. With Garwal bashing on my temp pet there wasn’t any hectic situation and I could casually hit him with wyvern sting. You have to wait for wyvern sting to have a certain amount of seconds left on it before you start taming (the percentage and number of seconds left depends on your lvl and wyvern sting damage, I found another lvl 71’s number estimates which were 53% and 13 seconds and they worked perfectly for me). So while waiting for my wyvern sting to get to the right number of seconds left I had lots of time to dismiss my temporary pet, Garwal still being stunned by the wyvern sting stayed put. At 13 seconds I hit tame and all was fine. (Of course I left out the parts where I got two adds and had to kill and frost trap those in the middle of all that as well lol).
But anyway, I got him and he’s very cool looking.
I’m sure he’ll be fixed one of these days, but who knows, so far even though they fixed the taming of those they’ve let the people who’ve tamed the crocodile ooze/hydra and the old spirit wolf keep them. So I’m not expecting anything but we’ll see. It was a fun little experiment in any case. Only took 3 tries so that wasn’t too bad

# 12 - Worgen pet - what is its fate? - July 6, 2009, 6:32 pm
As you put it Zennie, we are currently discussing this issue.
It is not intended that Garwal can be tamed while in worgen form and will be addressed via a hotfix in the near future. When we have determined how to handle situations where hunters have already tamed Garwal we will let you know.
Another day, worthless prey
Wilting hearts translucent thin
Another bag of empty skin goes straight through the air
Like a balloon let go of

So Good luck If you’re looking to tame him too.
