What’s worse, extinction of a single species or stopping evolution?

August 24th, 2010

A thought came to mind when I was watching a show about a huge new species of bear they found and shot in Canada. It turned out to be a Grizzly/Polar Bear hybrid. Which they found very unusual since it wasn’t normal Polar Bear behavior to travel that far south.

So the thought I had:
Are we going to be the end of everything because we keep stopping animal evolution by shooting new hybrid species of animals like polar/grizzlies? With the polar caps melting maybe instead of trying to save a species and keeping it “pure” we should just let nature take care of it like it has for billions of years with a new and tougher species which can survive and thrive in the new conditions instead of killing them all off. It’s certainly been a trend. Every time we see something new show up it’s rare, which makes it expensive by default and we shoot it, sell it and/or study it’s corpse.

On the other hand, dinosaurs have been known to dominate the planet by not giving a lot of other species a chance too. So maybe what we’re doing is natural and all part of the cycle too.

Eh who knows.
Too much thinkz, Xbox tiem now. :P

2012 mystery solved.

June 3rd, 2010

That’s right, I figured it out.
None of that end of the world BS! I found out the REAL reason why the Maya were making such a big deal out of 2012.

They predicted the remake of The Neverending Story!

That’s right.

Look at the evidence and weep! :O

Srsly, it’s the truth!

The mystery thumps.

May 31st, 2010

So last night as I was about to go to bed I started hearing these weird thumps in the bedroom. It sounded a little like dripping but not quite, it was heavier than that. So I got up and walked to where it seemed to be coming from. Then it stopped and started again on the opposite side of the room. So I figured I must’ve misheard and went to the new place. It stopped and now it seemed to be coming from inside a wall on yet another side of the bedroom. Walked over there. Stopped and started again from what seemed to be up in the loft.

I chased it around like that for about a minute or so. Then I needed a sanity check. So I called Mord who was still downstairs. He came up and I asked him to verify this weird sound. He heard it too and it seemed to be moving around for him too. It would actually pop up near me when he’d walk around on the other side of the room. We both kinda went WTF and weren’t sure what to do about it since we couldn’t figure out WTH it was.

Chased it around the room a few more times until suddenly it stopped entirely. Then I moved and it started again. Right below me in the floor. So I moved back to where I was. Stopped again. So I stepped away, got down onto the floor to put my ear against it and I heard it very clearly. And then the light bulb went on and I went: “Is the ceiling fan in the kitchen on?” and mord lol’d and confirmed it. It’d been on the high setting and it gets a little unstable on that setting so the base knocks on the ceiling a bit. So he went downstairs to turn it off and the mystery sound was gone.

The way our place is built makes the acoustics incredibly weird sometimes. That combined with me standing on parts of the floor which apparently affected the fan below made for a very interesting mystery hunt lol. Really should have TAPS come out here. Bet they’d find all sorts of ‘paranormal activity’ here. :P

Poor thing…

April 30th, 2010

Don’t you realize that your scrambling to try and take material things in an attempt to ruin our lives only makes us laugh?

We have family and friends who love us because we return that love.

All you have are the people you manage to keep snared around you by means of fear and manipulation.

You can take all the money and items and flail and scream about in your rabid malice but your life will always be poor, while ours will always be rich.

Meh.

January 27th, 2010

So this week has sucked so far.

Monday: It was pretty stormy and I woke up all mucusy with a sore throat so I started the day slow. I was sitting at my desk playing WoW when I suddenly heard this loud cracking sound. My first thought was that it might be either a tree snapping or possibly lightning. About a second later the power went out. So I got up, looked outside and saw that one of the electrical poles across the street had snapped in two. Figured I’d call the electric company until I started seeing smoke… and weird flashing colors. Turns out the wire was still live, hanging low over the road and setting the neighbors’ bushes on fire. Or trying to anyway, it was pouring down pretty hard but the sparks didn’t stop and neither did the smoke.

So since I couldn’t see much in the dark I figured: “Screw finding the power company’s number” and I called 911 instead. I didn’t want people driving their cars into that live wire on their way out to work or the neighbor’s house catching fire. Turns out someone had already called it in and both the electric co. and a fire truck were already on their way. Unfortunately it took them all freaking day to get the power back on. They had to replace the pole and were doing work down the street too so I guess a lot got blown out. So yeah, the day was spent with a fire going and me trying to keep myself entertained with candles, a blanket, my camera and my DS. I’ve changed my mind about electric stoves being handy after that day :P No microwave, no stove and no heat made for a very lousy tea and soup-less Flu day.

Tuesday: I’d forgotten about our dentist appointment. So meh, after the day before I so wasn’t in the mood but decided to go anyway and get it over with. Ended up with half my face numb. We decided to at least have a nice lunch after. I got my fav. at the sushi place nearby, Beef Negimaki (what can I say, I’m not much of a raw fish person :P). Unfortunately with half my face numb it was a huge pain to actually manage to eat and then I ended up swallowing a crunchy piece of beef which I thought I’d chewed properly but hadn’t so it felt like a little razor blade sliding down my throat. Had trouble eating and even just swallowing in general for the rest of the day. That combined with my flu not getting any better = +100 points on my “Oh boy aren’t we having fun today!”-meter.

So anyway, today’s Wednesday and even though the flu is still going I’m hoping the day will be nice and uneventful.

Wish me luck :P

PS. Workmen and vehicles in the dark + camera + shaky flu arms makes for pretty abstract photo art :P

No worries mon…

June 29th, 2009

It amuses me how my brain works sometimes (well, most of the time :P).
I’m such a worrywart and I always over complicate things ahead of time which usually (well almost always :P) results in a lot of wasted energy.

Our cluster mailboxes got replaced a few days ago. We didn’t receive a new key so we couldn’t get to our mail. So over the weekend (when there wasn’t anything I could do about it anyway) I was wondering who to contact to get the new key.

Here’s a general description of my thought process:

“I should probably call the local post office first.”

“It’s a private community though, so those boxes are probably bought or rented by whoever is in charge or on the board of the community. So they probably have the new keys then.”

“I don’t even know who those people are. Maybe I should call the Realtor to ask for that info.”

“I wonder if those keys were handed out during one of those community meetings we never go to. Maybe I should ask the neighbors to see if they know what’s going on and where we can get that key.”

“Or maybe they put it in our old mailbox before they replaced it but we didn’t see it cause we didn’t check for a few days. That means they probably transferred all the mail to the new one including our new key. Meh I’ll have to wait there for the mailman to show up so he can open it for me. And they never deliver mail at the same time each day… if I call them and it’s in the mailbox maybe they can give me a rough estimate about when he’ll be there so I don’t have to wait there all day… Hmm wonder if I need to bring old mail as proof of address when I do that… should probably ask that too.”

“Wow, you know I hope it wasn’t a first come first serve type deal and ours is a different box in a shitty place now cause we waited so long.”

“They’ll probably only give us one key too. We have two now. I wonder if the hardware stores even make duplicates of keys that are smaller than house keys…”

So this morning I decided to start off by calling the local post office, which went like this:

Me: “Hi our community’s mailboxes just got replaced. I was wondering who I need to contact to get a hold of the new key.”

Post office worker: “Oh yeah it’s here, you can come pick it up.”

Me: “Oh… ok that’s great thanks!”

Went over there, guy came out with the new keys (that’s right, keys, they made us 3 copies) and all of our mail including a package we were expecting. Cause obviously they’re smarter than I gave them credit for and kept the mail there until I came to pick up the key :P I asked if it was still the same box number, guy said “yup” so I thanked him and went on my way.

I’m such a nutbag.
I laugh at it in hindsight, but I know I’m going to do it again anyway cause that’s just the way I work unfortunately :/

*sigh*

Creative Crustacean?

May 26th, 2009

Yes.

Last night I went to give Stumpy some fresh water when I noticed something… odd.

I’ve already mentioned before how he tends to throw temper tantrums whenever I don’t put things into his enclosure exactly the way he likes them, or if I give him the wrong kind of food. He just thrashes the place and throws everything around. He turns his little coconut cave upside down, digs up the little plastic trees and drags them around, up turns his food dishes, stuff like that.

Not last night.

His food dishes are little half shells. He used to have just one, but back when I ordered some new things for him they sent me another one with a free food sample. And I decided to put that one in too and use it for the new treats I got him, that way it wouldn’t get all nasty and mixed up in his regular food. One of the new things I got him are little dried fruit bites. I’ve always given him bits of fresh fruit and still do but he really seems to love the new processed fruity bits.

So anyway, when I opened his enclosure I noticed that he hadn’t turned anything upside down. But he’d actually taken the new food dish with content and placed it exactly on top of the other one lol. Didn’t look like he spilled anything either. They were perfectly lined up. one on top of the other so you couldn’t even see the old dish anymore. So that was a pretty freaking amazing thing for a hermit crab to do XD

I wonder if he’s trying to tell me that he prefers the new stuff over the old stuff and would like some moar of that and less of teh other plz…

My poor Blog.

May 20th, 2009

It seems that the combination of Twitter and Facebook have kinda made it so that my blog doesn’t really get as much attention as it used to. And I don’t mean from people, I mean from me because I just don’t feel the need to write long journal entries when Twitter allows me to update people about the condition of my stool every 10 mins :D

So, I guess I um..

Well I don’t have any news really :P

Nutshell recap then?

* Saw Star Trek, loved it.
* Working on my game idea, never gonna happen.
* Got my hands on the Odd Hours paperback, finally.
* Going nuts waiting for Mass Effect 2.
* Successfully upgraded PC hardware and running Vista for the first time, liking it so far.
* Been cleaning out the guest room because we’re going to have a guest next month :)

And that’s pretty much it.
I might start using the blog for mad storyline ramblings for the game idea I have but we’ll see.

-Dee.

Upgrade.

May 12th, 2009

That’s right. Going to get some new hardware. Mainboard, CPU, video card and HDD. So it’ll be a major overhauling. I’ll be gutting my case and putting in the new stuff when it gets here (which should be today) and then a fresh install of the Vista ultimate I’ve been saving for this occasion :)

So anyway, depending on how smoothly everything goes I might be off-line for a while. Hopefully not too long but you know how it goes sometimes. So wish me luck :)

Hope there will be much glee and very little cursing today.

Monday morning excitement.

April 20th, 2009

So I was sitting at my computer this morning and I spot this large black thing from the corner of my eye. There’s a lot of dog owners in our neighborhood so as I turned my head I’d already assumed it was a dog and went “wow that’s a big puppydo.. HOLY CRAP!” ’cause when I turned my head to look at it I saw what it actually was lol.

And yes, the photo is crappy quality because I had to run like mad to grab the camera and get the shot in through the window lol. Didn’t have time for any settings or to put the long range lens on. And as for it being a through the window shot, I wasn’t going outside to take it, it was strolling right by our driveway when I first saw it lol.

Unfortunately Mord did have to go outside to catch his bus. :S
Luckily the bear was heading in the opposite direction.

I was gonna do some yard work today too… I might wait a few hours… :S
