Don’t make me call Cesar on you!

Snowphie

February 25th, 2010

So most of you know Sophie absolutely loves the snow.
We’ve had quite a bit of it today so I let her in the back yard for a bit so she could run around in it like mad like she always does.

Unfortunately she misjudged the height of the snow next to the house today…

That’s ok though cause apparently she has these amazing transformer like powers and turned into a jetski/snowmobile right after so she could continue her snow insanity.

Our dog is such a lunatic.
Guess that’s why she fits in so well. :S

Meh.

January 27th, 2010

So this week has sucked so far.

Monday: It was pretty stormy and I woke up all mucusy with a sore throat so I started the day slow. I was sitting at my desk playing WoW when I suddenly heard this loud cracking sound. My first thought was that it might be either a tree snapping or possibly lightning. About a second later the power went out. So I got up, looked outside and saw that one of the electrical poles across the street had snapped in two. Figured I’d call the electric company until I started seeing smoke… and weird flashing colors. Turns out the wire was still live, hanging low over the road and setting the neighbors’ bushes on fire. Or trying to anyway, it was pouring down pretty hard but the sparks didn’t stop and neither did the smoke.

So since I couldn’t see much in the dark I figured: “Screw finding the power company’s number” and I called 911 instead. I didn’t want people driving their cars into that live wire on their way out to work or the neighbor’s house catching fire. Turns out someone had already called it in and both the electric co. and a fire truck were already on their way. Unfortunately it took them all freaking day to get the power back on. They had to replace the pole and were doing work down the street too so I guess a lot got blown out. So yeah, the day was spent with a fire going and me trying to keep myself entertained with candles, a blanket, my camera and my DS. I’ve changed my mind about electric stoves being handy after that day :P No microwave, no stove and no heat made for a very lousy tea and soup-less Flu day.

Tuesday: I’d forgotten about our dentist appointment. So meh, after the day before I so wasn’t in the mood but decided to go anyway and get it over with. Ended up with half my face numb. We decided to at least have a nice lunch after. I got my fav. at the sushi place nearby, Beef Negimaki (what can I say, I’m not much of a raw fish person :P). Unfortunately with half my face numb it was a huge pain to actually manage to eat and then I ended up swallowing a crunchy piece of beef which I thought I’d chewed properly but hadn’t so it felt like a little razor blade sliding down my throat. Had trouble eating and even just swallowing in general for the rest of the day. That combined with my flu not getting any better = +100 points on my “Oh boy aren’t we having fun today!”-meter.

So anyway, today’s Wednesday and even though the flu is still going I’m hoping the day will be nice and uneventful.

Wish me luck :P

PS. Workmen and vehicles in the dark + camera + shaky flu arms makes for pretty abstract photo art :P

Moon

November 1st, 2009

Shot I took of the moon this eve. At first I thought something weird kept happening to the bottom of the photos but once the RAWs got developed and I got the sharp image I realized it’s actually just cratery goodness. So I figured I’d share :)

Sophie liek teh yogurtz

July 1st, 2009

I love the faces she makes when she’s eating yogurt. She usually gets to clean out what’s left in the tiny plastic containers after we’ve had the mini yogurts but last week we finished a big one so it was a Sophie feast :)

^’,,’^ BLAH! Yogurt vampire!

Return of the racer.

June 25th, 2009

After having chased the snake with my camera yesterday I wasn’t expecting to see it again but this morning when I looked out of our front window I found that it had come back, had woven itself through our porch railing and was staring right at me lol.

So I guess our porch is it’s home now.

I took a whole bunch of shots, also did a panorama attempt where I took a 3 section close up and stitched it together. Didn’t spend too much time on making the background seamless, the snake’s the interesting part anyway.

So here’s the panorama and a close up of the face. :)

Welcome home, have a snake.

June 24th, 2009

Found this guy on our doorstep after coming home from a visit to a wildlife reserve.

After I took some shots he actually found a hole to slither into under one of the steps (which I’m not too sure I like lol). Caught him outside again a bit later on and found out why they call these Northern Black Racers because my God did it move! Luckily (if I identified it properly that is) it’s a constrictor so it’s nothing to worry about even if it does bite. But judging by it’s behavior so far it’ll get the hell out of your way before you can even get close to it so that’s cool.

Figures right? No luck when you’re out at a wildlife reserve looking for something good, it finds you instead. :)

(btw, not a great shot quality wise but the subjects are amusing :) )

Sophie’s Obsession

May 8th, 2009

For the past few weeks Sophie’s been incredibly obsessed with several spots in the little natural stone wall in our back yard. She keeps seeing something in and around the cracks and has been running towards it and just been standing there, either with her nose pressed up against it or just staring at it, ears perked, waiting for something to come out again.

We shortened her lead a few times to snap her out of it. I don’t mind her exploring a bit, but there can be some things with a nasty bite in there too so I didn’t want her to poke around in there too much.

Today I finally heard what she heard, so I got curious as well. I went over and kept quiet and still for a while. Heard some more rustling and then a big ol’ five-lined skink (not skunk, skink) popped out from between the stones. Then about a minute after it had disappeared again a smaller and lighter colored one popped up for a bit of sunbathing. I’d gotten my camera in the mean time so I took some shots.

The sunbathing front leg position was really silly looking and it amused me. So I’ll post that one here. It kinda makes it look like a bit of a liztard. :D

So mystery solved. Sophie’s not nuts. She really did see something.
Well, she’s still nuts, just less than we thought :)

Monday morning excitement.

April 20th, 2009

So I was sitting at my computer this morning and I spot this large black thing from the corner of my eye. There’s a lot of dog owners in our neighborhood so as I turned my head I’d already assumed it was a dog and went “wow that’s a big puppydo.. HOLY CRAP!” ’cause when I turned my head to look at it I saw what it actually was lol.

And yes, the photo is crappy quality because I had to run like mad to grab the camera and get the shot in through the window lol. Didn’t have time for any settings or to put the long range lens on. And as for it being a through the window shot, I wasn’t going outside to take it, it was strolling right by our driveway when I first saw it lol.

Unfortunately Mord did have to go outside to catch his bus. :S
Luckily the bear was heading in the opposite direction.

I was gonna do some yard work today too… I might wait a few hours… :S
